L2

A patient with a history of DVTs  presents to your office complaining of headaches, itchiness after taking a warm bath, SOB, and numbness/tingling in her extremities.  On physical exam splenomegaly is noted. Her CBC shows an↑ Hct, thrombocytosis and leukocytosis. EPO was ↓.

·

Why might the patient have a history of DVTs?

·         What does this patient likely have?

·         What is the cause of splenomegaly?

·         What is the difference between P.Vera and secondary polycythemia?

·         An elevated EPO would be seen in which kind of cancer?
